- Are you ready to volunteer 350 hours of your time?
This is known as "sweat equity." Each adult applicant must complete 250 hours, and the remaining hours can be completed by friends or family. This also includes taking financial literacy classes and helping with the construction of your home and others. Our volunteers are essential in building affordable homes and fostering pride in homeownership through their involvement.
- Are you open to accepting a decent and affordable home in Pulaski County, KY?
Please note that Habitat is not a custom builder. We secure lots in advance and assign them to families as they are ready. You won’t be able to choose your specific Habitat house or neighborhood.
- Are you willing to positively represent Pulaski County?
This may involve sharing your personal story or photos to help promote Habitat’s mission through various media. You’ll have the opportunity to review and sign a Media Release Form before we share any information.
- Do you believe that showing pride in your home reflects your lifestyle?
- Can you commit time to homeownership, financial education classes, and regular meetings with a mentor?
- Are you a team player?
- Are you willing to invest time in home maintenance or learn the skills needed for it?
- Are you ready to take on the responsibilities of buying and maintaining a home?

- Are you open to background and credit checks?
Additionally, you should have $1,000 in savings before closing (when you take possession of the home) to cover closing costs and homeowner's insurance.
